50.
Hi,

 51.
My daughter is about to go into the middle school and made friends with a girl in her school who is quiet, shy, a little anxious, dresses up much younger than her age, does not have many friends. We became close friend with the family but… even though the girl’s parents are thrilled they are friend and want them to be in the same classroom next year, almost every time we hang out this happens. I think we all had a great time and then the mom will say: “oh by the way when we were hanging out your daughter did … or said…” it is never dangerous or mean to her child. Or she will say: “oh my daughter said your daughter forgot her homework.” You get the point. I am thinking to tell her this: “I was going to actually talk to you about this. When my daughter does or says something that is dangerous or mean, please let me know. Otherwise I can’t and won’t talk to my daughter about everything because she will think your daughter is a tattletale and will not be her friend.” How does this sound? Any other suggestions? Thank you!

 181. Many of the resources that help children become “Fully Ready” are expensive or limited to certain neighborhoods. That’s not fair—and it’s not sustainable.

Areas like Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Hills, and Arabian Ranches often feature parks, playgrounds, and family-friendly spaces even for smaller units. These communities are also designed with families in mind, offering easy access to nurseries, schools, clinics, and supermarkets. Even in urban areas like Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina, you’ll find well-maintained public spaces, kids’ zones, and proximity to top-rated schools and daycare centers.

 246.
Raising Kids Who Don’t Hate: What Psychology Says Parents Can Do

 247.
LisaJM1

 248.

 249.

 250.
We often teach our kids not to hit, not to lie, not to be mean—but do we teach them not to hate?

 251.
Psychologists offer powerful insights into how hate develops—and how we might prevent it from taking root in the first place. Their research shows that hate often grows out of humiliation, powerlessness, and exclusion—feelings that kids may quietly internalize unless we show them another way.

 252.
Here’s what parents should know:

 253.

 254.
Hate is different from anger.

 255.

 256.
Anger says: That behavior hurt me and I want it to stop.

 257.
Hate says: That person is unchangeably bad. Kids learn the difference when we model forgiveness, accountability, and emotional repair.

 258.

 259.
Hate thrives when kids feel powerless.

 260.

 261.
Repeated shame or harsh punishment can lead children to see others—or even themselves—as “bad” rather than “capable of change.”

 262.

 263.
Group hate doesn’t require personal experience.

 264.

 265.
Children may learn to hate people they’ve never met, simply by hearing adults use dehumanizing or stereotypical language about groups.

 266.
What can parents do?

 267.

 268.

 269.
Teach empathy early. Help kids name others’ feelings, even when those feelings are hard or unfamiliar.

 270.

 271.

 272.
Model emotional repair. Show your child how to apologize—and how to forgive.

 273.

 274.

 275.
Avoid labeling others as “bad people.” Focus on behavior, not identity.

 276.

 277.

 278.
Expose kids to diversity. The more real people they know, the harder it is to reduce others to caricatures.

 279.

 280.

 281.
Talk about justice. Let your child process unfairness without escalating into hate. Guide them to channel frustration constructively.

 282.

 283.

 284.
Children look to us to understand how to handle pain, difference, and conflict. Let’s teach them that anger can be healed—and that hate doesn’t have to grow.

 300.
Commitment to Change: A Tool for Turning Insight into Action

 301.
LisaJM1

 302.

 303.

 304.
The Commitment to Change (CTC) model is a simple but powerful framework originally developed to help psychologists and other professionals apply new learning from continuing education programs. As outlined by Greg J. Neimeyer, PhD, in his work for the American Psychological Association, CTC encourages individuals to reflect on what they’ve learned, commit to specific changes, and then follow up to see what progress has been made.

 305.
Although designed for professional development, I’ve found CTC to be just as valuable for anyone navigating personal growth. Whether it’s a shift in mindset, a new coping strategy, or a practical habit you want to build, the process translates beautifully into everyday life.

 306.
Here’s how to apply the CTC approach:

 307.

 308.
Reflect on what stands out: After any meaningful experience—a conversation, therapy session, or life event—ask yourself, What change do I want to make?

 309.
Be specific: Instead of saying “I want to be less overwhelmed,” try “I will spend 10 minutes each evening planning the next day.”

 310.
Rate your commitment: On a scale from 1 to 5, how likely are you to follow through? If it’s low, that’s a sign the goal may need adjusting.

 311.
Check back in: After a few weeks, revisit your commitment. Did you take action? What got in the way? What helped?

 312.

 313.
Dr. Neimeyer’s (and colleagues) research suggests that even brief, structured reflection paired with written commitments can significantly increase the chances of actual behavior change. The key is not just setting an intention, but actively returning to it—with honesty, flexibility, and accountability.

 314.
Whether you’re working with a mental health professional or simply trying to create a better version of your everyday life, the CTC model offers a practical and proven path from insight to action.

 388.
Hello,

 389.
My son is falling asleep while he’s on the breast. He’s 18 months old now and I want to stop it but he’s crying and I don’t know how to comfort him. I don’t know how to teach him to sleep independently. He has a floor bed in his bedroom. Can you please advise me something? I feel ashamed that he still needs the breast to sleep, and also I’m afraid he will feel neglected if I don’t do this. It’s so confusing

 460.
If you are like many homemakers, you don’t want to invite people over unless the house is clean and the food is noteworthy. For many of us, that means not entertaining because, well, the clean home and exquisite food is hard to accomplish. "Scruffy hospitality" is an approach to hosting that emphasizes genuine connection over the pursuit of perfection or presentation. Here are the key principles:

 461.

 462.
Prioritize Relationships Over Perfection: Focus on meaningful interactions rather than ensuring your home is immaculate or meals are elaborate.

 463.
Embrace Imperfections: Welcome guests into your home as it is, without extensive cleaning or organizing, to foster a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

 464.
Simplify Meal Preparation: Serve simple, straightforward meals using what you have on hand, reducing stress and allowing more time to enjoy with your guests or try a potluck.

 465.
Encourage Spontaneity: Be open to hosting friends and family on short notice, strengthening bonds and creating a welcoming environment.

 466.
Foster Authenticity: Allowing guests to see your home’s lived-in state can deepen connections and make social interactions more genuine.

 467.

 468.
By adopting scruffy hospitality, you create a warm, inviting space where the emphasis is on togetherness and real connections, rather than on maintaining an impeccable environment.

 515.
Did you know that more than 36 million people age 12+ reported using cannabis in a single month—double what it was a decade ago?

 516.
As cannabis becomes more widely available and socially accepted, many parents are left unsure of how it truly affects the developing brain. Recent research backed by the American Psychological Association reveals that adolescent cannabis use is linked to:

 517.

 518.
Changes in brain development

 519.
Lower academic motivation and GPA

 520.
Reduced long-term income and well-being

 521.
Biological factors that may increase vulnerability

 522.

 523.
Even when cannabis doesn’t cause lasting cognitive damage, it may undermine educational and life outcomes during a critical growth period.

 524.
Parents need science-based guidance—not marketing myths. Start the conversation early. Stick to research. And don’t assume it’s harmless just because it’s common.

 558.
Miscarriage Is More Than a Loss—It’s a Wound That Deserves Compassion

 559.
LisaJM1

 560.

 561.

 562.
If you’ve experienced a miscarriage or early pregnancy loss, you are not alone—and you are not wrong for still feeling the weight of it, even weeks, months, or years later.

 563.
A major review of research confirms what so many parents have quietly carried: early pregnancy loss can cause deep psychological pain. In fact, up to 4 in 10 women experience clinical levels of anxiety or depression after a miscarriage, and some go on to develop symptoms of PTSD. Partners, too, may struggle—just in different, often more silent, ways.

 564.
What this means is simple and profound: your grief is real.

 565.
It’s not “just a bad period.” It’s not something everyone “gets over.” It’s a life-changing event for many families, whether the pregnancy was planned or not, long-awaited or unexpected. And sadly, many people go through it without the emotional support they need.

 566.
Researchers found that the risk for psychological distress is highest when people lack support or feel isolated, when they’ve had past losses, or when they’ve struggled with fertility or mental health before. Being single, or feeling unsupported by a partner, can make it even harder.

 567.
That’s why it’s so important to be gentle—with ourselves, with our partners, and with others who may be walking this path in silence.

 568.
At Mamapedia, we want to remind you that you don’t have to “bounce back” from something that broke your heart. If you’re struggling, please reach out—whether it’s to a friend, a therapist, or your doctor. There is no shame in needing support. In fact, it’s human.

 569.
Let’s keep talking about this. Let’s make space for grief. And let’s remind each other that healing looks different for everyone—but it starts with being seen.

 586.
I need to buy a new bed. I’ve been looking around and it seems that the good old mattress and box spring does not exist anymore. They all seem to be some sort of foam mattress with metal platforms. My first question is what happened to a normal bed? The next question is does anyone have a recommendation or a horror story to share on what brand to avoid? I’ve read reviews for big names like Purple and they are mixed. I’m also a little shocked at how expensive a big piece of foam is. Are there really any differences in the foam mattresses that are worth thousands of dollars?

 638.
As children transition into young adulthood (typically ages 18–25), they navigate major life changes, including education, employment, relationships, and personal identity. Research (https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10888691.2015.1082429) highlights the key dimensions of successful young adult development and emphasizes the importance of supportive relationships. Parents play a critical role in helping their young adults thrive in these areas.

 639.
How Parents Can Support Young Adult Development:

 640.
Foster Strong Relationships

 641.

 642.
Maintain open communication and show emotional support.

 643.
Encourage young adults to build meaningful friendships and social networks.

 644.
Respect their growing independence while remaining a trusted source of guidance.

 645.

 646.
Promote Emotional & Psychological Well-Being

 647.

 648.
Encourage resilience by allowing them to navigate challenges with support.

 649.
Help them develop a positive sense of identity and self-worth.

 650.
Teach stress management and problem-solving skills.

 651.

 652.
Encourage Healthy Lifestyle Choices

 653.

 654.
Support regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and sufficient sleep.

 655.
Discuss responsible decision-making regarding alcohol, drugs, and sexual health.

 656.
Promote preventive healthcare, including mental health check-ins.

 657.

 658.
Develop Life Skills & Independence

 659.

 660.
Teach practical skills like budgeting, time management, and decision-making.

 661.
Guide them in career exploration and educational planning.

 662.
Encourage self-advocacy in work, school, and healthcare settings.

 663.

 664.
Model Ethical Behavior & Civic Engagement

 665.

 666.
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and integrity in everyday life.

 667.
Encourage volunteerism and engagement in their communities.

 668.
Help them navigate ethical dilemmas and develop their own values.

 669.

 670.
As young adults transition into independence, parental support remains essential. By providing guidance, encouragement, and resources, parents can help their children successfully navigate this critical stage of development.
